Annie Sloan shares a technique that brings out the beautiful detail on gilded surfaces with pronounced carving such as mirrors & frames. Apply ASCP to the surface, getting it into all the recesses. Once the paint has dried thoroughly, take a damp cloth and wipe over the raised carving leaving paint in the recesses. Paint Paris Gray over gold frames and let them dry really well. Sand with a wet rag and then use a coat of clear wax and then a coat of dark wax. After coating liberally with the dark wax, take an old t shirt and dab some clear wax on it, rub over the dark wax to take off all the excess. The result is amazing.
