Moro (Philippine) armor, 19th c, detail view of the latches, butted brass mail and plate, first worn by warriors during the latter days of Spanish occupation. The Moro Rebellion (1899-1913) was an armed conflict between Moro revolutionary groups in the Mindanao, Sulu, and Palawan (Minsupala) and the U. S. military which took place in the Philippines between 1899 to 1913, following the Spanish-American War in 1898. Moro (Philippine, Mindanao) mail and plate armor, 19th century, protection for the upper part of the body, exclusive to the Moro as it was not found among any other Philippine groups. These armors known as kurab-a-kulang were made of a thin layer of carabao horn or bras plates joined with butted brass mail, the front part is closed with hooks.
