Five Star Data Recovery
Here is an example of a drive that has mechanical issues that was tortured. I can't stress how important it is to power off your drive if it falls, is improperly ejected, or makes clicking/beeping sounds. It is game over for this customer, unfortunately.

Our customer's drive fell and was making constant clicking sounds. They powered on the drive 2 times for about 5 minutes each time. We opened the drive cover in our Clean Room and initially everything looked great. The top platter was clean, no visible scratches. But when we removed the read/write heads and inspected the sliders under the microscope, it wasn't good :(. We decided to remove the platter from the drive to inspect the condition of Platter 0.
