An early-evening view of the topiary Yews that are a feature of the Pillar Garden, taken from an archway on the Long Walk. The almost lime-green colour of the Hornbeam hedges at this time of year is really quite spectacular.

Portland, Oregon Japanese Garden- so thing I notice is that even though these gardens share a lot of the same plants we see around where we live, the difference is that they are meticulously maintained.  The bushes are rounded shapes and every thing is tidy.  This is what I want.  But who is going to take care of it for me in August when it is 108 in the shade?
