Giant rove beetle
This is one of the bigger rove beetles (Staphylinidae; id ?) I've come across so far in the miombo forests. It's about 32mm long, black, hairy, with strikingly bright reddish elytra and beaded antenna. It hunts under the vegetation growing on and around huge termite hills (DR Congo, Katanga, Mikembo sanctuary, collected one in January 2014). Studio work with an ethanol preserved specimen.
