Survakane (“Сурвакане”) - Children and in some areas only boys gather to walk from door to door, going around the village, and giving blessings to the houses, householders, families and even pets, to wish everybody health and welfare throughout the New Year. In their hands they hold beautiful, decorated with yarn and dried fruits, cornel branches, called survachki (“сурвачки”). The children would say a blessing while gently patting the back of everyone in the house with the survachka.
