Post Mortem CDV from 1850s Daguerreotype Mother Child | eBay Very strange to see the mothers serene face while holding her deceased infant. It almost seems kind of glad, or is it shock?

flaming angel story

Victorian Postmortem, one of the most interesting and unique post mortem photographs I've ever seen. dont know if the 2 girls are also postmortem.

previous description - Pretty sure the girl in front was dead, and possible the girl on the left in the back row. This picture is pretty big, about 12 x 20".

this picture hangs in my family's kitchen.we believe that the young girl in front, and possibly the standing woman on the far left are dead. Their eyes have been smudged out and drawn back on, and they just seem 'off.

Imagine how difficult it must have been to pose with a dead loved one. At the time, the photography process was slow and you could not move while the photo was being taken.

The baby was sleeping. The writing on the back of the photo says, "Taken September 12th, 1854. The child was 28 days old."

No it isn't a post mortem!!

This young man was possibly an ill child, posed for a pre-mortem photograph. His grip on the stick horse he rides appears to be that of a living person, but the tint added to his cheeks and his weak eyes contribute to the perception of sickness.

This Victorian-era mourning tradition is fascinating. Warning: Pictures of dead people ahead.
