Viking age Finland / A new monetary discoveries from Finland/ More than 300 pieces of silver

1150 year-old Viking treasure found in Sweden a few years ago consisted of mostly Middle-Eastern coins minted in Baghdad, Damascus and Persia.

Traders would normally carry a folding scale that weighed the coins so they could make sure that they got a fair deal. The Vikings created the city of Dublin, which became the trading centre of Europe.

A hoard of artefacts including more than 200 coins, ingots & pieces of silver jewellery, found buried in north Lancashire. The British Museum are examining the hoard after it was discovered in a lead pot by a metal detector enthusiast.
