This year, the Vatican will formally canonize its first Native American saint. But the legacy of Kateri Tekakwitha -- and that of the Catholic Church -- has sparked debate all across “Indian Country”.

I will never ever complain and see this pic everyday to remind myself although it breaks my heart to even look...

Dear God, we take so much for granted - I reposted to remind me of all that I have been blessed with. I ask Lord that you stop me and break my heart. "Let my heart be broken by the things that break your heart God".

Bl. Kateri Tekakwitha is the first Native American to be declared a Blessed. Her feastday is July 14. She is the patroness of the environment and ecology as is St. Francis of Assisi.
