Situated on a rock outcropping some 2,600 feet above the Paro Valley, the Tiger’s Nest Monastery is built around a cave where the Indian guru Rinpoche meditated in the 8th century. Guru Rinpoche is said to have arrived on the back of a flying tiger. Today visitors reach the monastery via a climb of several hours that is not for the acrophobic.
