Gigantopithecus, The Giant Ape: The largest ape to have ever lived, this huge animal stood up to 10 ft and weighed up to 540 kg (1,190 lb). Gigantopithecus was a vegetarian and ate a diet of tough fibrous roots and stalks as well as fruit and nuts similar to that of pandas and orangutans. It is theorized that this ape was "bipedal like modern humans" due to the skulls position on the spine and it went extinct some 100,000 years ago. Animal Kingdom, Species, Apes, Sasquatch

Paranthropus boisei or Australopithecus boisei was an early hominin, described as the largest of the Paranthropus genus. It lived in Eastern Africa during the Pleistocene epoch from about 2.3 until about 1.2 million years ago. First discovered by anthropologist Mary Leakey on July 17, 1959, at Olduvai Gorge, Tanzania, the well-preserved cranium (nicknamed "Nutcracker Man") was dated to 1.75 million years ago and had characteristics distinctive of the robust australopithecines. "Early African Homo erectus fossils (sometimes called Homo ergaster) are the oldest known early humans to have possessed modern human-like body proportions with relatively elongated legs and shorter arms compared to the size of the torso. These features are considered adaptations to a life lived on the ground, indicating the loss of earlier tree-climbing adaptations, with the ability to walk and possibly run long distances." Portrait
