The Religion Teacher
What does Maundy Thursday mean? Maundy Thursday is a common name for Holy Thursday, which is the Thursday before Good Friday and Easter Sunday. "Maundy" comes from the Latin word "Mandatum," which means mandate or commandment. On Holy Thursday we are reminded of Jesus' Mandatum Novum, his new commandment to love one another as he loved us. This is perfectly expressed by the ceremonial washing of feet to commemorate the model of love Jesus showed for us during the Last Supper.

Countdown to Easter: Helping Kids Understand the Easter Story

Have you ever noticed that we tend to do a whole lot to prepare our kids for Christmas and not nearly as much for Easter? It's not hard to understand why: it's a lot easier to talk about a cute baby in a manger surrounded by cuddly animals than it is to explain the crucifixion to a preschooler.
