Multiplication fluency does not have to be elusive! Sure, students need to practice, memorize and understand the multiplication facts. But that doesn't always achieve fluency with the facts. You also need to teach students multiplication strategies such as adding a group. The multiplication strategies help students when they just can't recall or remember the facts. Discover and learn more about how to teach these strategies! #twoboysandadad

Print out these color or black and white versions of these game boards for students to practice the multiplication tables 2 through 12. This is a fun game in which students practice the multiplication facts with arrays, equal groups, skip counting, or any other strategy. This activity can be done remotely using a document camera or played independently at home. Game boards are available in 5 different themes. Discover and learn more! #twoboysandadad

Teaching multiplication in third grade builds on second grade practice with repeated addtion by using an array. Arrays, equal groups and number lines are my prefered visuals for developing conceptual understanding of multiplication. This animated PowerPoint uses all three strategies for multiplying. Students make connections across all three strategies. They follow along with the printables and show their thinking about multipication. Discover and learn more about multiplicaiton…

Teaching multiplication in third grade should be planned over the entire year. Sure, we initially teach the concept, use hands-on activities to problem solve and then practice. But, how do we get students to multiplication fluency? That involves teaching strategies, memorization, practice, games, learning the properties of multiplication and even homework. Learn more about my year long plan for helping students learn multiplication and achieve fluency. #twoboysandadad

Teaching conceptual understanding of multiplication to 3rd grade students should be a hands on approach to have students build equal groups, arrays and multiplicative jumps on a number line. These foam tiles are great for concretely moving students from additive to multiplicative reasoning. Discover and learn more about my strategies, activities and resources I use to teach the concept of multiplication. #twoboysandadad

Multiplication fluency does not have to be elusive! Sure, students need to practice, memorize and understand the multiplication facts. But that doesn't always achieve fluency with the facts. You also need to teach students multiplication strategies such as using the distributive property. The multiplication strategies help students when they just can't recall or remember the facts. Discover and learn more about how to teach these strategies! #twoboysandadad

When you're third graders are starting to learn about the Distributive Property of Multiplication, is it rough going? It's a difficult concept to teach as well as learn. But I have found activities and approaches that help conceptual understanding that builds to procedural fluency with this multiplication property. Discover and learn more about the anchor chart we make, the activities we do and more. #twoboysandadad
